The
volunteers of FRP are proud to serve the residents of the Southwest
Community
through the
Emergency Food Pantry. Since 1994, we have collaborated with the Rochester
FOODLINK non-profit clearinghouse to help decrease the amount of hunger in
the 14608, 14611, 14619 and 14620 zip codes of Rochester (representing the
southwest community).
Our volunteer staff is committed to helping families
in need and has successfully donated
over 822 hours of time to serve
greater than 735 households (accounting for 958 adults, 933 children,
124 seniors) in 2006.
How do we do it?
As
afore-mentioned, our food pantry is supported through collaboration with
the Rochester FOODLINK clearinghouse. On a yearly basis (from July until
June), our organization is allotted a line of credit to obtain
foods that are either donated to or purchased by FOODLINK. The credits
allow us to bring in specific kinds of healthy foods (i.e. USDA or
NYS-HPNAP nutritious foods) to our clientele.
v
In addition, for over 10 years we have
received monetary donations
from
New Life Ministries
Inc. and have been able to expand our food pantry by
150 square ft.
because of their
assistance.
v
Our United Way donors (donor
option #1807) have also greatly enhanced the way that we have provided
service
over
the past several years. Because of generous contributions our donors have
assisted in our expansion and have
helped us develop and implement a
computerized database where we can safely input our client’s information.
The hours of
operation for our Food Pantry are Wednesday and Friday mornings
between
9:30am - 12
noon.
